Good People started by documenting the lives of my grandparents and their people in and around Salters, a small rural town forty miles inland from South Carolina's coast. The project has grown to include the broader and predominantly Black residents of Williamsburg County and the connections and shared experiences that held them together in the midst of Jim Crow.

Photographs, interviews, and archival research will feature the stories of people who integrated Kingstree public schools, ran the summer lunch program at St. Philip A.M.E. Church, picked cotton and tobacco with their siblings, and made big pots of chicken perleau for dinner.
